Professor Iris Sommer
Iris Sommer is a clinical and academic psychiatrist who completed her medical studies in Amsterdam and earned her PhD from the University of Utrecht in 2004, focusing on brain imaging in schizophrenia. In 2011, she was appointed Professor of Psychiatry at the University Medical Centre Utrecht, where she founded the Voices Clinic. Professor Sommer has published over 250 articles on hallucinations, language, cognition, and psychosis.
Her research interests span a wide range of topics, including the association between cognitive dysfunction and immune system activity. Through her prolific publication record and impactful initiatives, Professor Sommer continues to make significant strides in advancing our understanding of neurological and psychiatric disorders, with a focus on developing innovative treatments to support individuals with cognitive deficits during their recovery.
